This is a continuation of a STW pilot begun at Manchester High School to
incorporate hands-on school-based learning with work-based and connecting
activities. The project expands horticulture to additional high schools
and the Ohio Valley Vocational School.
The initiative will provide funds for the greenhouse structure, training,
technical assistance in designing formal internships and start-up materials.

Purpose is to enhance the industrial technology program in all four Adams County Jr./Sr. High Schools. Specifically the initiative will:
Key components include adding aerodynamics and space rocketry to the
industrial technology lab. School-to-Work concepts will be embedded
in the 9-12 language arts curriculum through the use of the supplemental
text, School-to-Work. Resume writing and job interviewing techniques
will be addressed using human resource directors as class speakers. Connecting activities will feature French adults stationed with G.E. giving
class presentations and sharing of the videos on French culture with American
employees at G.E..
Providing intensive professional development to train a personnel in
Character Education. This will enable staff to incorporate the week's
character trait into curriculum. Activities include integration of
Character Education into morning announcements, banners, flyers, and
bulletin boards with the 'word of the week'. Establishment of a Character
Education resource center for staff will facilitate the program.
A state School-to-Work partnership development grant awarded January 1997. The goal of the initiative is to:
Educators are receiving training in TQM and data analysis that are
applicable to curricular and instructional strategies.
