CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES

The sixth meeting of the Adams County School-To-Work Action Team took place June 1, 1999 in the district’s five distance learning labs. Dave McChesnesy called the meeting to order at 9:03am. There were 21 members present. Linda Stepp made a motion to approve the minutes as presented, Phil Hanna seconded, the motion carried.

 COORDINATOR’S REPORT

Gene Toole announced the success of the STW Banquet. He had mailed 200+ invitations with 120 RSVP’s and 100 actual attending. The speaker was very good and students such as Katie Robertson, Peebles stole the show.

Gene Toole stated that he would contact those involved with Career Development to give a 5 minute presentation to get view how all stakeholders fit together.

PRESENTATIONS:

Russ Brewer – OWE – highlighted the vocational program, emphasizing the credits available and criteria for participation.

Cindy Running – JOGS- highlighted the five year model and the goals of the program.

Gene Toole – Career Development – highlighted this state initiative’s spectrum that ranges from Kindergarten through Senior High School. The main thrust is the ICP-Individual Career Plan, developed in the eighth grade that grows and changes with the student.

Jan Holbrook – JTPA- highlighted this federally funded programs job training and retraining components as well as the services available.

Greg Grooms – DHS- highlighted the OhioWorks project which includes a SSCC employment training program and a prevention/retention/contingency component.

Kay Holden – FCFC – explained this state funded referral source.

Elaine Collins – Workforce Development – elaborated on centralization of like programs to receive grants and discussed PACT.

Linda Stepp – STW – highlighted this reform movement and discussed areas that will be strengthened through technology.

Linda Stepp made a motion that the executive committee would meet at REA on July 6, 1999 and the General Partnership would meet August 10, 1999 at the distance learning labs in the high schools. Phil Hanna seconded this motion, the motion carried.

Dave McChesney thanked all presenting agencies. Peggy Ginn made a motion to adjourn, Kay Holden seconded, the meeting adjourned.
