Meeting will be held in the distance learning labs of all High Schools and the Vocational School at 9:00am. Feel free to utilize the closest distance learning lab for you.
CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The eleventh meeting of the Adams County School-To-Work Action Team took place December 1, 1998 in the district’s five distance learning labs. There were eight members present at five sites. Andrew Culbertson called the meeting to order at 9:03am. Linda Stepp made a motion and David McChesney seconded a motion to accept the minutes as presented, the motion passed.
COORDINATOR’S & FINANCIAL REPORT, Mr. Toole can be reached at the Ohio Valley Vocational School during the school day at 544-2336.
Gene Toole explained that the RFP on the $20,000 block grant. $15,000 is available for mini-grants. Executive Committee will decide the parameters. December 7, 1998 at 9:00am the executive committee met to discuss this.
Region 7 meeting: $4,000 is available to draw down to use however the committee deems appropriate.
The budget has been established for the Information Age Schools That Work, which must be spent by September 30, 1999.
Dorothy Smith went to the Character Education National Conference in Colorado and returned with $4,000 that Adams County may access for "Equity STW Systems"; non-traditional careers primarily for girls, but can be for boys; needs of equity, possibly Math/Science program.
The Regional Showcase Event was discussed briefly. There is $10,000 available to work with Highland, and Brown Counties to plan and finance the event. Possible site includes SSCC.
Internship: placement of kids; 16-18 kids placed, anticipate 30-40 third trimester. This initiative needs to be a coordinated effort.
Region 7 At-Large Member; Nominated Andrew Culbertson, Approved with a unanimous vote.
OLD BUSINESS
Thank you to the web page committee and especially Bill Lewis and class. The web page looks fantastic.
PR Committee; Will put something in the papers.
Nomination Committee; Katy Robertson, David McFarland, Linda Stepp, Nancy Darby, Gene Toole.
Those who would have terms that expire according to the motion during the November meeting include; Don Bowles, Andrew Culbertson, Phil Hanna, David McChesney, and Tony Staggs. Linda Stepp made a motion and Roy Willman seconded to nominate the following; David McChesney, Chairman, Roy Willman, Vice-Chairman, David McFarland, At-Large Member, and Dawn Countryman, Secretary. The motion passed. The new officers would take office at the January meeting. This will be reviewed at the next meeting against the by-laws and an amendment added if needed.
Updates:
French Connection Grant; Going well, students placed at GE and Jerry Ginn and Dale Scott are working cooperatively.
Weastec Grant: Grant has expired, it is now self-sustaining. The response is very positive.
NEW BUSINESS
Peggy Ginn made a motion to adjourn, Linda Stepp seconded, the motion carried.
Next meeting; January 5, 1999, 9am, in the distance learning labs of each High School and Vocational School.
There will be an executive meeting immediately following the regular STW meeting, please plan to attend.
