Meeting will be held in the distance learning labs of all High Schools and the Vocational School at 9:00 AM. Feel free to utilize the closest distance learning lab for you.
CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
- The fourth meeting of the Adams County School-To-Work Action Team took place April 7, 1998 in the district’s five distance learning labs. There were twenty-four present at four sites. Gene Toole called the meeting to order at 9:10am.
- A motion to accept the minutes from the March meeting was made by Brad Jones and seconded by Dave McChesney, the motion passed.
COORDINATOR’S & FINANCIAL REPORT
- Gene Toole discussed different activities for the month of March. He focused on the four mini-grants awarded to teachers in the school district. The Action Team is going to be financially able support these projects. Dave McChesney reported that the amount of monies distributed to the locals would be reduced this year and will continue the trend. The Action Team will begin investigating alternate ways of funding the Local School-To-Work Partnership.
- The Finance Committee was tabled.
PR COMMITTEE REPORT; Don Bowles, chairperson, Gene Toole, Tony Staggs, Dawn Countryman, and George Robinson
- The committee is focusing on character education and the mini-grants at the present time.
- The internship/apprenticeship program would need highlighted.

- Our web page is linked to the State STW web site. It is impressive. It can be located by going to the Peebles High School web page and linking with Adams County STW.
OLD BUSINESS
Linda Naylor, Career Education Coordinator discussed the importance of the Career Passport. This is a state initiative. Seniors graduating from Adams County/Ohio Valley Schools are required to complete a career passport. As part of the graduation requirement the career passport will contain the following documents; Letter Verification, Resume’, Validation of Performance, two Career Narratives, High School Transcript, two Written areas of SCANS, and Letters of Recommendation. Two students from North Adams High School spoke of the benefits of going through the process of creating the Career Passport and working in the internship/apprenticeship program. The action team wishes them the best of luck as they graduate High School. Mrs. Naylor emphasized the need for employers to ask for the passport during an interview.
NEW BUSINESS
- Weastec is pleased with the internship/apprenticeship program. They currently have five students from North Adams High School and five students from West Union High School. They would like to maintain the program year round.
- A joint effort between Aeroframe and Southern State Community College to develop a pre-employment training program was realized April 5, 1998. This effort will a tremendous contribution to the area.
- Discussion of a Spring banquet for businesses, teachers, students, members of the STW partnership was tabled for later discussion.
- The construction of the district’s five greenhouses is progressing. The greenhouse at the OVVS is complete.
- A motion was made by Nancy Darby and seconded by Katy Robertson to adjourn the meeting, the meeting adjourned.
Next meeting May 5, 1998, 9 AM, in the distance learning labs of each High School and Vocational School.
